The Minor in Linguistics provides a solid introduction to the scientific study of language for students in a related major field. Because studying linguistics develops essential skills that have broad applications, the minor provides excellent preparation for careers in fields such as teaching, business, technology, government and nonprofit organizations, as well as advanced studies in humanities, social sciences and law.

Courses:

Students minoring in Linguistics must complete a total of 21 units:

Required (9 units)

LING 106 - Language and Linguistics (3)
LING 351 - Introduction to Linguistic Phonetics and Phonology (3)
LING 406 - Descriptive Linguistics (3)

Electives (12 units)

Select courses with the approval of the undergraduate adviser. Students may tailor the minor to individual needs in rounding out a course of study in their major area of specialization.
